More Than Just My Work

Besides this work, some other things that make me light up are creative writing, spoken word, live music and theatre, dancing, making intuitive art without rules and expectations, “coincidences” and synchronicities, oracle cards and astrology, the sea, the moon, wild flowers, and connecting with others on a deep and genuine level. I love to spend quality time with my dearest humans. I’ve also recently discovered the amazing world of podcasts, audiobooks, and rollerskating (it’s never too late to try something new!).

Darja Milidragovic, MA, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor

You might be feeling that things are off – that you’re not living or feeling the way you wish you could, maybe stuck in a pattern or constantly tired or dysregulated. Maybe there’s a label for it, like anxiety, depression, trauma, or ADHD, but you’re still not sure what to do to feel better. In my work, I adopt a warm, curious and unshaming approach to explore and support the challenges you face. Instead of being broken or failing, I believe our bodies, nervous systems, and symptoms are deeply intelligent – if we look carefully, we find doorways to unmet needs, untold stories, wisdom, gifts, strengths, and important messages about the support and comfort we need in our lives.

I invite permission and freedom into our sessions so you can begin to relate to yourself with greater curiosity, awareness, compassion, and grace. Instead of trying to simply “get rid of” problems as quickly as possible, we will slow down and discover what they have to tell you. What are they responding to? What are they protecting? What is their longing? When we’re curious, your symptoms and feelings start to make sense. For example, they might be valid responses to too much pressure, criticism, loss, or living in systems that demand too much and support too little. When we listen deeply, they can point us to what needs more attention, care, change, protest, or support. They can point us to what you can do to lead a more joyful, fulfilling, and meaningful life.

I believe sustainable, long-term change comes from guiding you to unearth and unfold answers that already exist in you. I welcome your intelligence to reveal itself through parts work, somatic exploration (bringing the body into dialogue), the expressive arts (drawing, movement, sound, writing, and other creative forms), or play (for children). Together, we can expand the possibilities of how you see yourself and the concerns you have.

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”

Besides being a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), I am also a certified Expressive Arts Therapist. Before the pandemic, I primarily worked as an ExAT with students in elementary and high schools. I was especially passionate about my work with immigrants and students of refugee background due to my own experience of fleeing war and coming to Canada. For my counselling Master’s capstone paper, I focused on migratory grief – grief that results from leaving one’s land and starting over. In addition, I was an English instructor for the LEAP program at Langara College for 15 years and taught students of diverse backgrounds.
