Anxiety Therapy in North Vancouver

Are You Overwhelmed By Thoughts Of Being A Failure?

Do you struggle to manage your emotions, and feel like you’re always flying off the handle? Are you overwhelmed by the pressures of life pulling you in multiple directions at once? Do thoughts of being incapable and powerless to change your situation keep you up at night?

Perhaps you’re experiencing chaos in your home — juggling your kids and partner, and trying to keep up at work. Maybe avoidance, irritability, or agitation are becoming more frequent, and as a result, your relationships are suffering. On the surface, you may try hard to make your life look perfect, but deep down, you have no time to take care of your mind and body.

Anxiety Symptoms Exhibit Themselves In A Variety Of Ways

You may find it challenging to focus because of ruminating thoughts of not being good enough in your personal or professional life. Or maybe you’re tired of feeling tired, restless, and overwhelmed by problems that are too much to handle.

In addition, perhaps you’re experiencing physical symptoms as well—sweating, insomnia, over or under-eating, churning in your stomach, or headaches.

Living with anxiety can often feel like you have no control over your life. But seeking therapy for anxiety grants you the opportunity to ease your mind of disempowering thoughts while feeling more content and in control.

You Are Not Alone — Anxiety Is The Body’s Way To Communicate When It Feels Under Attack

Many of us are affected by anxiety at some point in our lives. It is a natural human emotion that shows up when we experience stressful situations. Having to balance taking care of a home, kids, partner, job, extracurriculars, and aging parents can leave us feeling like we’re in over our heads.

However, while a measure of anxiety is normal, it becomes a problem when it causes us to sabotage our relationships and work performance, or when we begin to lose control of our thoughts and feelings.

Societal Expectations Of Perfectionism Can Contribute To Anxiety

The truth is that society places a tremendous amount of pressure on people to meet unrealistic standards. The desire to live in an affluent area, climb the corporate ladder, have the perfect home, and the perfect relationship, and be regarded as having it all together is what plants the seed of uncertainty and insecurity.

It is difficult to feel “worthy” and “enough” in a society that constantly demands more of us. Being successful in every area of our lives, and not asking for help because it makes us look “weak”, are reasons why anxiety and depression are on the rise among many people today.

Though feeling unaccomplished and pressured into being something more might be viewed as normal, the anxiety that develops as a result is not. Anxiety treatment with Boomerang Counseling Center will provide you with the right tools to identify your stressors, manage your symptoms, and discover how to live a more relaxed life.

Anxiety Therapy Can Help You Feel Content And In Control Again

Discussing anxiety, and how it is negatively affecting your life — and all the emotional dysregulation that comes with it — is difficult. However, having an experienced therapist by your side allows you to feel seen and heard.

Therapy gives you a safe space to understand your anxiety and feel comfortable sharing thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental environment geared toward helping you heal.

What To Expect From Anxiety Therapy Sessions

Our anxiety therapy sessions focus on exploring the body and understanding how it is there to protect you. We aim to help you achieve awareness of body cues and messages specific to your situation and identify precursors to anxious moments to minimize and mitigate anxiety symptoms.

During sessions, we will teach you the physiology of anxiety, its role to protect you, and how to work with it instead of having it work against you. We show you how to redefine anxiety through a proactive lens and create the opportunity for you to feel on top of life rather than having life on top of you.

Our therapists can gently help you recalibrate your system and develop more compassion for yourself, all while learning various strategies and techniques to manage anxiety symptoms. Grounding exercises, breathwork, self-regulation and mindfulness meditation are just some of the skills you will learn to better manage stress and regulate your emotions.

Treatment Approaches We Use During Anxiety Counselling Sessions

Attachment-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) are the most common approaches we use during anxiety therapy sessions.

Attachment-based therapy is an approach we use to address the unhealthy thoughts, emotions, communication patterns, behaviours, and social interactions that you may have learned early on in life and then unlearn these negative patterns. The goal of this approach is to help you to form a secure attachment with your therapist and apply the techniques learned during sessions outside of the therapeutic setting.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) uses mindfulness to help encourage you to embrace your emotions and thoughts instead of feeling guilty or even fighting them. ACT promotes self-acceptance and awareness through observation and tolerance of your thoughts and feelings.

Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) is a treatment that targets attachments and relationships because anxiety disorder can cause emotional dysregulation. EFT focuses on emotional regulation as a key component in your interactions and experiences. It also concentrates on change in relationships with self and others.

Overcoming anxiety isn’t a walk in the park but with our help at the Boomerang Counseling Center, our anxiety counsellors are equipped with the skills and knowledge to help you regain a sense of peace and control.
